Shooting in a shopping center in Copenhagen: 3 dead and 3 critical after an attack in Denmark

‘Multiple shots’ in shooting at Copenhagen mall

Three people have been killed and three others are in critical condition after a gunman opened fire on a crowded shopping center in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Gunshots were heard around 5:30 p.m. local time in the Field mall, prompting shoppers to flee or hide in stores.

Police Inspector Soren Thomassen said a 22-year-old Dane was arrested in connection with the shooting.

“We don’t have any information that others are involved. That’s what we know now,” Thomassen told a news conference.

Officials said the possibility it was an “act of terrorism” could not yet be ruled out, but it was too early to speculate on the shooter’s motive.

“We were all brutally torn away from the bright summer that had just begun. It’s the world upside down. Heartbreaking. It makes no sense,” Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said in a late-night statement.

“Our beautiful and usually so safe capital was changed in a split second.”
